PROVIDED BY NATURE
We call them weeds, and feel that nature has sent them to plague us. But the reason why they grow so profusely around the sites of old cottages is that they were once encouraged, even cultivated. They are a source of essential nutrients, and can also help with health. Foraging provides food for free, and the gathering of it, out in the fresh air, can be as enjoyable as the eventual meal. Care is needed at times with identification, and familiar plants like dandelions or nettles have a wide range of uses. The foraging approach means that we can change our mind about removing weeds, but instead find out the rich range of uses that we can make of them.
